At Vassar College, where I earned my BA, I more or less lived at the writing center—either working as a peer tutor or using the services myself. At the University of Virginia, where I earned my PhD in English, I was delighted to balanced my scholarship with tutoring in the writing center (including dedicated sessions with student athletes) and mentorship for first-time writing instructors. I'm interested in all things "meta"—novels about novelists, teaching about teaching, writing about writing—and I'm currently researching the representation of writer's block in literary and popular culture. Outside of academia, I write about politics, pop culture, and surfing. I have a mild obsession with Twin Peaks.
