At Vassar College, where I earned my BA, I more or less lived at the writing center—either working as a peer consultant or using the services myself. At the University of Virginia, where I earned my PhD in English, I was delighted to balanced my scholarship with consulting in the writing center (including dedicated sessions with student athletes) and mentorship for first-time writing instructors. I'm interested in all things "meta"—novels about novelists, teaching about teaching, writing about writing—and I'm currently researching representations of writer's block in American literary and popular culture. Outside of academia, I write about politics, pop culture, and surfing. I have a minor obsession with Twin Peaks.
