James Howard, PhD
Medieval literature. Board games. Space travel. These are a few of my favorite things. I am a math and science enthusiast who transitioned into English literature, communication, and writing center studies. From my math and English coursework at the University of Tennessee I earned a PhD in English literature from Emory. In my research I'm an inveterate tinkerer; I want to figure out how people, technologies, and cultures work to produce whatever I'm studying. How do tools affect how we tutor? How did methods of concealing one's face create an elaborate system of recognition in late medieval courts? I take that same curiosity to my sessions with student writers and communicators. How is your project working and how can we figure out how to approach that project?
