Student Consultant
If you are an undergraduate, a good communicator, and enjoy helping your fellow students improve their communication skills, join us! The first step is to take LMC 3813 "Communication Theory, Pedagogy, and Practice." We are currently offering this course online but will offer an in person section in Spring 2025. The course description is below.
LMC 3813: Communication Theory, Pedagogy, and Practice
Georgia Tech alumni repeatedly cite the importance of communication skills in their professional and personal lives. Addressing this need, in this course you will study the ways in which people communicate, learn to communicate and strategies to help others improve their communicative abilities. You will achieve these purposes through several means:
- the study of those theories and research methods that have informed what we currently know about how writing and communication works on the page, on the screen and during in-person interaction;
- the investigation of your own writing and learning strategies;
- the observation of one-to-one instruction in the Naugle Communication Center; and
- the completion of a group research project intended to improve practice or deepen our understanding of communication at Georgia Tech.
Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to apply for paid employment as peer consultants in the Communication Center.
Center Assistant
Center Assistants are often the first people students, faculty, and staff come into contact with when they visit the Center. They are responsible for greeting everyone who enters the Center, managing appointments, answering telephone and e-mail queries, and directing visitors to the appropriate people.
While we are not hiring at this time, we typically hire in December and late July/early August, so feel free to email us around those times if you are still interested.
